Pumping station Spaarndam

MF Emmen - Spaarndam boezemgemaal - renovation

Main contractor GMB and subcontractors Beenen / Machinefabriek Emmen completed the job in time: both electric motors of the Spaarndam pumping station were delivered on 1st September, according to the schedule. This concerns the renovation of the pumping station in Spaarndam, whereby the diesel motors were replaced by electric motors.

This means that from 1st September the pumping station will be able to run at full capacity again. It allows Rijnland to face the wet autumn and winter with great confidence. This is truly a feat, because Rijnland had given the contractor only 4 months – between 1st May and 1st September – to complete the job. This has been achieved thanks to an optimum cooperation between GMB, MFE and other subcontractors, management company Antea and of course all inhabitants of Rijnland involved. However, the project has not been completed yet. Both motors can now be operated manually. In the period from September to December, the process automation is replaced, so that the pumping station can also be remotely controlled. Finally, construction work is also carried out, such as the repair of walls and floors and the execution of paintwork. The festive opening ceremony will be Spring 2018.
